Thomas James Wertz

Thomas J. Wertz, 91, of Baltimore, MD passed away Monday December 31st, 2018. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Moore) Wertz. Born to Thomas and Leola (Marshall) Wertz, Thomas was one of 5 children. He worked for many years at Bethlehem Steel, and coached their company baseball team. In 1955 during his time atBethlehem Steel, Thomas started his own business renovating properties and painting. Thomas was a member at St. Paul’s Independent Church in Manchester, MD. Outside of work, church, and spending time with his family, Thomas loved to shoot pool and even went to tournaments in Las Vegas. In addition to his wife Ruth, Thomas is survived by a daughter Ruth Ferguson and her husband Kenneth; two grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister Virginia “Ginny” Crouse; and numerous nieces and nephews. Thomas is preceded in death by two sisters Doris Elaine Wertz and Earline “Snooks” Neal, and one brother Donald “Tiny” Wertz. A public viewing will be held at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. at 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA on Tuesday January 8, 2019 from 10 AM until 12 PM. At the conclusion of the viewing, there will be a graveside service at New Freedom Cemetery. Please kindly omit flowers, and consider donating to acharity of your choice in Thomas’ memory.
