Virginia H. Davis

Virginia Ellen (Hanna) Davis, 94, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away May 30, 2023, at Country Meadows of York, in York, PA. She was born on June 9, 1928, in Pikesville, MD.

Virginia, affectionately known as “Ginnie” to family and friends, married Earl E. Davis, Sr. in 1947.  They had five children and enjoyed 63 years together on their farm in Hopewell Township, near Stewartstown PA.

Virginia is survived by two daughters, Linda Davis and Debbie Barton, 3 sons, Earl Davis Jr. and his wife Alexis, Brian Davis and his wife Roe, Greg Davis and his wife Sandy, 11 grandchildren (Leigh Jergenson, Tyler Barton, Lauren Davis, Kate Davis, Brian Davis Jr, Jim Barton, Zachary Davis, Annie Schoch, Sophia Sturm, Alex Davis, and Julianna Davis), and five great-grandchildren with another expected in July.

In addition to being a homemaker for many years, Virginia worked as Secretary-Treasurer for Hopewell Township starting in 1968, then was elected Township Supervisor in 1978, the first woman township supervisor in Hopewell Township, and one of the earliest in the state.  She served in that role through 1985.

Virginia was employed for 16 years by Adams Electric Cooperative as York District Office Supervisor and retired from that company in 1990.

In later years, Virginia and Earl Sr. enjoyed retired life on their farm, and she had wide-ranging interests, including her grandchildren, quilting, gardening, reading mysteries, time spent by the pond, and travel.

In recent years, Virginia enjoyed the companionship of her special friend, George Wolf, who predeceased her in 2022.

A public visitation will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at Stewartstown United Methodist Church 26 S. Main Street, Stewartstown, PA 17363. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm at the church.

Virginia’s family is grateful for the compassionate and thoughtful care she received from the staff at Country Meadows of York, PA, and Lifesong Hospice & Palliative Care.
