Virginia L. Matthews

Virginia L. Matthews, 81, of Stewartstown, PA, passed away on October 11, 2020. Born in Upperco, MD she was the daughter of the late Adam and Minnie Mae (Lewis) Kelley. She was the wife of the late Vernon Matthews. Virginia, known as Ginny to family and friends, graduated from Hereford High School.Ginny and her late husband, Vernon, were active in their community volunteering for Parks and Recreation for many years helping with dances, summer playgrounds and sports.Ginny was President of the Ladies Auxiliaryof the Parkton American Legion Post 256 for several years.In addition to their two natural born children, Ginny and Vernon fostered four children all while living on their family farm on Gore Mill Road in Freeland, MD. She is survived by her two children Cindy Tinley and her partner Alan Burton and Steven D. Matthews his wife Kelly; two foster children, Brad Harris and Brian Opie; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a brother William Kelley. She was preceded in death by her foster daughter Melissa Opie and her sisters Ann and Florence (Floss) and her brothers Adam (Brub), Denmead (Denny), and Talbot (Pat). A graveside service at Stewartstown Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be held at the home of Cindy Tinley on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 4:00PM.
