Walter L. Cayce passed away December 31, 2023. He was born on January 26, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Arthur & Clara Cayce. Walt was married for 61 years to the love of his life, Mary Lou (Mauck) Cayce, who passed away in 2017.
Walt worked for the Maryland National Guard from June 21, 1948 to January 31, 1990. He served in the 29th Division, 224th and 110th Field Artillery Battalion. Walt served in the Maryland National Guard during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After that, he was supervisor of the Data Processing Center in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Walt joined Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge in 1968. He served as Worshipful Master in 1977. Later, after moving to Shrewsbury, he became a dual member of Lodge No. 423 – Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania. Walt was also a member of Baltimore Boumi Shriners and Towson Chapter No. 70 – Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a Past Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel No. 36 – Parkville and Past Associate Guardian of the Grand Bethel – International Order of Job’s Daughters.
Walt loved his family and his church family. He is survived by his loving daughters, Debbie Hupp and her husband, Max, and Jacquelynne Lagna and her husband, Jerry; four grandchildren, Matthew Hupp, Alaina Miller and her husband, Michael, Kelly Turbin and her husband, Jeremy, and Nicholas Lagna; three great-grandchildren, Allen Turbin, Lillian Miller and William Miller; and a sister, Margaret Smith.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews along with Mary Lou’s sisters and brother, Shirley Barley and her husband, Bob, Alice Flynn and William Mauck. Walt was preceded in death by his two brothers and two sisters.
There will be a viewing from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349 with a Masonic service beginning at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, January 5, at Grace Church Shrewsbury, 473 Plank Road, New Freedom, PA. Interment will be in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore, MD at 2 p.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace Church Shrewsbury or Mt.
