William A. Adkins, 84, died January 24, 2016, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson, Md. He was the husband of D. Charlotte Adkins. William and Charlotte celebrated 61 years of marriage October 23, 2015. A viewing will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, Pa. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, February 1 at the Mortuary, with the Rev. Mark E. Fair and Pastor Jason Tourville officiating. Burial will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, Md. William was born December 1, 1931, in Wade, Cumberland County, N.C., a son of the late Arthur and Mamie D. (Barefoot) Adkins. William served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950-1953. William was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Shrewsbury. He retired in 1984 from Western Electric, Baltimore. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and gardening. Surviving William are his wife, D. Charlotte Adkins, Parkton, Md.; three daughters, Debbie Krause and her late husband, Michael of New Freedom, Karen Sailer and husband Chuck of Glen Rock, and Kim Adkins Hughes and husband Glenn of Seven Valleys; four grandchildren, Branden, William, Garrett and Amber; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Paige; one brother, James; and two sisters, Lettie and Jackie.
