William J. Hugo

d. September 4, 2024

William J. Hugo, 55, of New Freedom, unexpectedly passed from this life on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. He was the loving spouse to Gregory (Gregor) J. Sorensen and they were together for almost 33 years and married for 21 years. Born in Oregon City, Oregon, he was the son of the late Bill and Gloria Joan Hugo.

He was a dedicated son and an awesome partner, with a heart as big as this world. He was known for his smile and his big bear hugs. He was a shining star on the darkest night and a force of nature that never could be turned away. The world dimmed a little when his light went out. There is no way to write what he means to his family and friends. He has always been a beacon for what is good and just in this world. He is the life, the heart and the soul of his partner, and will be missed always.

Bill went to High School in Hyrum, Utah, and he attended college at Utah State University and the University of Phoenix.  He worked for Autoliv in Brigham City for 16 years, and he really enjoyed his work there. His most recent job is at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he is a Sponsored Programs Administrator for the Sub Contract Team. He has always loved Oregon and the beaches there even though he hated the Sun, Sand and Water (one of his favorite lines). He loved to cook and should have been a master chef; it was one of his passions. There is so much I want you to know about this man but there is no time or space to say it all. Know that he was a true hero to many and worked with many causes with fund raising and support. He firmly believed that everyone should be treated fairly and that we are all equal value and what we do with that value is what creates that person.

Surviving in addition to his husband are two brothers, Robert Hugo and spouse, Charri of Franklin, Idaho, and Russell (Rusty) Hugo and his girlfriend, Connie, of Hyrum, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Whitney of Heber City, Utah and Rhonda and her spouse, Curt of Heber City, Utah and a brother-in-law, Richard of Vernal, Utah. He has numerous nephews and nieces and grand nephews and grand nieces on both sides of the family that loved him so much and will miss him greatly. There will be a celebration of William’s life at a later date. Please check back to William’s personal webpage for details. Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. of New Freedom is assisting the family with the arrangements. HartensteinCares.com.
