William Francis Snyder, 88, was carried home by the angels on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, surrounded by his family and beloved pets. He was the husband of Geraldine (Winterling) Snyder, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. His family will greet friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Friday, April 15 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, with a rosary service beginning at 7:30 pm. The funeral liturgy will begin at 12 pm on Saturday, April 16 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, with Rev. Robert A. Yohe, Jr. and Rev. Sylvan P. Capitani concelebrating. Interment will follow the service in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Born October 16, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John and Myrtle (Schultz) Snyder, Bill attended Loyola High School.He proudly served as a firefighter with the Baltimore City Fire Department, Engine Co. 33, for 31 years and was a life member of Eureka Volunteer Fire Company in Stewartstown since 1989. "Mr. Bill" was cherished by so many for his love and historical expertise of the fire department, his way with animals, his peaceful presence, devout Catholicism, and endless support for and pride in his family. He especially enjoyed going to fire department musters with his good friends, Ed Schwartz and Gary Frederick and remained an active volunteer with EVFC Bingos in his later years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Geralyn Snyder Fuller; son-in-law, David Fuller; and grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Fuller.
