Willott David Saxberg, 86, passed from this life on Saturday, January 15, 2022. He was a loving, devoted husband of the late Anne (McGrady) Saxberg and the late Evelyn Saxberg. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts to Otto and Kasvi (Tuori) Saxberg, where he resided until his family moved to North East, Maryland to be closer to Kasvi’s sister Lillian and for his family to own land which included a blueberry patch, apple orchard, and woods for long walks. This is when he grew to love homemade pies that his mom baked. Later in life he mastered baking his own pies and was famous for his cheesecakes. Although he lived in North East, he graduated from Rising Sun High School where he attended his last year so he would have a better exposure to math courses for college. During high school he played trumpet for the North East Fire Company band.This is where he met his first wife, Anne.He attended the University of Maryland, earning his bachelor’s degree, and then pursued a career in teaching science at Pimlico Junior High School, and then North Harford High School. While teaching at North Harford, Will earned his graduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in Education. He also assisted in establishing a Science Camp at the Park School in Baltimore County, where students learned how fun Science is. Throughout Will’s life, he was engaged in many activities such as the Masonic Lodge where he went through the chairs becoming Worshipful Master, and the Finnish-American Society where he helped organize an International Festival for Finnish Americans at the University of Delaware. Will loved music and shared his talent of singing in many church choirs, most recently at Deer Creek United Methodist Church in Forest Hill, Maryland. He became very involved in Deer Creek’s congregational activities from being a board member, volunteering for the homeless meals, overseeing the Sunday Bible readings, and entertaining the congregation with his heartfelt stories, and corny jokes. He was loved and respected as a kind gentleman by all who met him. Surviving is a daughter, Joanna Saxberg, and a son, Jeffrey Saxberg; two grandchildren, Sarah Saxberg-Turner, and Leah Saxberg-Turner; two brothers, Joel Saxberg and Philip Saxberg.
