George Elvin Taylor, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, passed away Thursday, June 23, after a brief battle with cancer. His wife, with whom they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 3, Glenda (Royston) Taylor, survives him. Born July 2, 1940, in Glen Rock, George was the eldest son of the late Elvin Taylor and the surviving Edna (Wolf) Taylor. He was the brother to Glenn and his wife, Arlene; Louise (Taylor) Myers and her late husband, John; and Larry, and his wife, Joyce. George's family moved to a farm in Shrewsbury, where he spent his youth and later built a home for his own family. A Susquehannock High School graduate, George worked at AMP, Inc.-Tyco, for 30-plus years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of New Hope (Fissel's) United Church of Christ in Glen Rock and had served in various roles there. Over the years, he spent a lot of time watching family baseball games, organ recitals, band concerts and dance recitals, dining at favorite restaurants, gardening and quizzing family members on state capitals. He also enjoyed a good debate. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Taylor) Krout, and her husband, Richard Krout; his son, James Taylor, and his wife, Melissa (Meyer) Taylor; his grandchildren Jessica (Krout) Staub and her husband, Andrew Staub, Allie Taylor, Kylie Taylor and Hunter Taylor; and his great-granddaughter Shelby Staub. A funeral service will begin at 12 noon Wednesday, June 29, at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with the Reverend Julian E. Hall officiating.Burial is in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, Dallastown. Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 10:00 am -12:00 noon.
