Helen Mae Bricker Blasser, 93, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Friday June 28. Born in Shrewsbury, the daughter of the late Melvin Eugene Bricker and Mabel Irene (Trout) Bricker she graduated from West York High class of 1948 then attended the former Thompson Business College in York, PA.
Helen quickly had to get used to being in charge. Her mother passed when she was still 26 and was left to run things and raise a one-year-old daughter. In addition to being as homemaker and feeding the family plumbing crew dinner every day, she ran the hardware store- including the ordering, cashiering and keeping the books until the store closed in the 1970s. She helped run the plumbing business operated by her father and husband. She also found time to be a choir member at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and to be the organist there for 68 years.
She was a Past Matron of Triangle Chapter # 483 O.E.S., Shrewsbury and a former Deputy Grand Matron and Grand Organist for the grand chapter of Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her daughter Gretchan A. Blasser and numerous nieces and nephews. Both her husband Glenn and her brother Clark E. Bricker preceded her in death.
A viewing will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 105 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA. An O.E.S. Service will begin at 1:45 p.m with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
