Joan R. Patterson

Joan R. Patterson, 88, passed from this life on Thursday, January 6, 2022. She was the loving wife of Joseph R. Patterson for over 66 years. Born in Clendenin, WV, Joan was the daughter of the late Floyd and Vada (Slack) Ramsey. Joan earned a B.S. from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a M.A. from Loyola University. She enjoyed helping people throughout her career, first at Maryland New Directions and then as a career counselor at the University of Baltimore. She mentored many women in her job as well as in her church and she had a passion for studying and teaching God’s word. In addition, Joan was an excellent seamstress and cook, enjoyed reading and traveling, and loved her cats. Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Carol Shirvinsky and husband, John, of Perry County; and Linda Renick and husband, Bill of Hampstead, MD; three grandchildren, Bronwyn Edwards and partner Kaiti Pates, Colin Renick and wife Paula, and Amy Renick and fiancé Ryan Cain; a sister, Jill Burdette and husband, Dan. She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Carson.
