Michael Hughes Bailey

Michael Hughes Bailey, 27, passed from this life on Monday, July 8, 2024. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the loving son of Rouse Roby Bailey Jr. and Vernelle (Steingass) Bailey.

Mike graduated in 2015 from Hereford High School in Parkton, Maryland. Later, in 2019 he graduated from University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in computer science. His career in cybersecurity took him to positions on the Incident Response/Cyber Security Team at T. Rowe Price and, later, GitHub.

Mike's computer and cell phone repair capabilities were sought out and provided personal income while he was in high school. In college, his cyber security skills became evident with his team winning many hackathon awards. He loved ham radio, being active locally in mesh networks. These endeavors provided the basic skills which allowed him to make major solar and battery backup systems for his home. He was largely self-taught and a quick study.

Mike's wit and ability to bring people together made him the life of the party wherever he went. Those who knew him will remember a wickedly smart tech guru and devoted social and environmental activist. Mike cared quietly and intensely, always searching for a way to do good in the world. He rescued pets (Peanut and Mr. Man). Importantly, he also rescued people, taking them into his home in times of need. Mike was actively involved in planting trees and cleaning creeks.

Mike made the world a better place. He was a beloved son, brother, partner, and friend. He will be missed.

Surviving in addition to his parents is his sister, Laura E. Bailey, and his partner, Mariana Mena Lopez.

There will be a visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. 2nd St., New Freedom, PA 17349. A second visitation will be on Saturday, July 13,  from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA  17349, with the Funeral Liturgy beginning at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the adjoining church cemetery following the Mass.
