Richard D. "Rick" Patterson

June 13, 1958 — October 17, 2016

Richard (Rick) Patterson, 58, passed away on Monday October 17, 2016 after a brave battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Mary Beth (Stedina) Patterson. They recently celebrated 27 years of marriage. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, October 23 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The mass will begin at 11 am Monday at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, with Rev. Anthony R. Dill officiating. Born June 13, 1958, in Pittston, PA, Rick was the son of Stanley and Bernice (Godowski) Patterson. Originally from Duryea, PA, he has lived in Shrewsbury for 27 years. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1980 with a B.S. in Electrical Design and Engineering. He received a Masters in Engineering from Loyola of Maryland. Rick worked for 33 years at AAI/Textron and for two years at Dentsply Intnl. In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by a son, Andrew J. Patterson of Baltimore, MD; a daughter, Kelsey E. Patterson of Philadelphia, PA; and a brother, David Patterson of Hughstown, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa (Patterson) Orkwis. Rick was an avid Penn State football and basketball fan. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was a Cub Scout den leader and baseball and basketball coach. He enjoyed working on the model train display at Christmas for St John the Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children's Hospital 90 Hope Dr. A120 PO Box 852 Hershey, PA 17033.
